Crotch Strap Kit

Running Total Hours: 0.0

2006.03.05: (2.0) The crotch strap kit (ordered separately from Van's) adds anchor points under the forward seat floors for attaching 5-point harness crotch straps.

Curiously, the openings and pilot holes in the forward seat floors were already cut out in the QB kit, even though the crotch strap kit is not included.  I verified the measurements of the openings and pilot holes, then started drilling the anchors to the floor ribs.  After painstakingly positioning the anchors, measuring, and re-measuring, and test fitting with the seat floors, I clamped them in place and went to work using the angle drill attachment.  Finished three of the four anchor plates.

2006.03.07: (0.5) Finished drilling the fourth anchor plate to the seat ribs.

2006.03.08: (1.0) Match-drilled the bolt holes through the plates.  Installed the fwd seat floors and match-drilled the screw holes into the crotch strap anchor plates.  Removed the seat floors and the anchor plates from the fuselage.

2006.03.09: (1.0) Drilled and countersunk the anchor plates for nut plates.

2006.03.10: (1.0) Started deburring the anchor plates.  This is a lot of work, having a lot of "edge" and a lot of edge features with all the flanges, etc.  As noted in the instructions, the rectangular cutout has to be edge-finished especially well so that it doesn't damage the crotch strap fabric.

2006.03.11: (1.0) Finished deburring the edges.  Also used a 3M disc to buff out some surface scratches caused by the shims I jammed between the anchor plates to ensure correct spacing.

2006.03.21: (1.0) Applied corrosion protection (AKZO) to the anchor plates.

2006.03.26: (1.0) Installed the anchor plates in the fuselage.
